Acne Scarring treatment in Reading | Hilton Skin Clinics

Acne Scarring

In addition to pain and emotional distress, acne is also prone to causing significant scarring.

Such scarring occurs when healthy tissue on the skin’s surface becomes damaged as a result of acne. Your skin attempts to form new collagen fibres by itself to repair the damage, but the finished ‘repair job’ is often uneven and discoloured, resulting in a scar.

Here at Hilton Skin Clinics, we offer a range of treatments specifically designed to combat acne scarring. If suitable, they can even be combined to increase results.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

One of the most sophisticated forms of skin treatment, laser skin resurfacing removes the skin’s outer layers. This helps to both improve and counteract acne scarring.

We use the Harmony iPixel – exclusively manufactured by Alma Lasers – which delivers targeted pulses of light to the treatment area; very thin layers of damaged skin cells are removed.

Electronic Dermaroller EDS

Utilising medical skin-needling – a long-established treatment for acne scarring – skin cells are regenerated to create smoother, brighter-looking skin.

The Dermaroller is used on the surface of the skin, producing thousands of tiny needle-columns which penetrate into the outer layers. Cell repair is stimulated, resulting in quick recovery and a clearer complexion.

LED Phototherapy

Also offered as an acne treatment, LED phototherapy can also be used for scarring too.

Certain wavelengths of light can be absorbed by the skin, and that’s exactly what LED phototherapy administers. Different light pulses are used to stimulate a healing response, promoting healthy cell re-growth and the reduction of scarring.

All three of our acne scarring treatments vary in terms of procedure experience.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Can result in soreness and discomfort during treatment. But, as a local anaesthetic and numbing cream is applied before the procedure begins, discomfort will be significantly reduced.

The number of treatments required differs from patient to patient. Typically, treatment courses are 3-6 sessions long with 4-6 weeks in-between treatments to allow your skin to recover. Whilst this may seem long-winded, final results could last for up to several years.

Electronic Dermaroller EDS

As with laser skin resurfacing, a local anaesthetic will be applied to minimise discomfort and pain. Topical solutions can also be applied to ensure the needle tip moves as smoothly as possible over the skin, further enhancing both your experience and results.

Skin may be slightly red after treatment, but will begin regenerating and ‘calming down’ immediately. It typically takes up to 6 weeks for visible results to be seen, and we usually recommend a course of 3 treatments with 6 weeks in-between.

LED Phototherapy

Completely pain-free, and results may be instantly noticeable after just one treatment. But, a course of treatments over a period of weeks will likely be needed to achieve desired results.
